Liturgy of the Word with Children

LWC to begin earlier than anticipated

Originally planned to start in October, Liturgy of the Word with Children (LWC) begins the last Sunday of September and continues through the end of May.

Offered at our 9 am Mass, LWC is an opportunity for children to hear and interact with the Sunday morning scripture. The scripture program is open to 4-year-olds through children in second grade. (Those children who have already experienced their first communion are asked to stay with the assembly.) The only requirement is that the child is able to share with others, sit and listen in a group setting.

LWC begins when the presider at the Mass invites the children to gather around the altar after the opening prayers. With a dismissal blessing, the children process out of the church and down to Bartl lounge for their own presentation of the scriptures from a lectionary for children.

After discussion, activities and prayer the children return to their families at Mass in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

There is no fee or registration for LWC. It is open to all children at Mass who are within the above age bracket. LWC is held every Sunday and will continue through Spring. The present volunteer leaders include Cindy Kocik, Sean O'Flaherty, Laura Paquette, Cindy Schini, Sue Stika, Terry Stika, and Jenny Masewicz. Anyone interested in being a leader for this program should contact Kathy Nicklaus at the parish office.
